May 6, 1861: His unit was folded into the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment

Was elected Colonel of the combined 600 man regiment

April 6-7, 1862: Battle of Shiloh

April 29 - June 10, 1862: Siege of Corinth

Transferred to the Trans-Mississippi Theater

July 4, 1863, Battle of Helena - made frontal assaults on U.S. Artillery batteries

April 25, 1864: Battle of Mark's Mill

April 24, 1864: Major General

September 27, 1864: Battle of Fort Davidson

October 25, 1864: Battle of Mine Creek

End of war was in command of Arkansas of the Trans-Mississippi Department until late April 1865

1874: Brooks-Baxter War

1875: Appointed U.S. Marshall by President Grant working for Hanging Judge Parker
