May 6, 1869: Became Colonel and Commander of 7th U.S. Cavalry

June 25-26, 1876: Battle of Little Big Horn was on detached duty at St. Louis, MO

1877: Campaign against the Nez Pierce

1881-1886: Governor of Soldier's Home in Washington, D.C.

1886: Retired from the U.S. Army
