The loss in Wilcox's brigade was heavier in the Seven Days battle then any other brigade in Longstreet's division. Wilcox had six bullets pierce his clothing, but remained unharmed

1847: Joined the 4th U.S. Infantry in Monterrey Mexico

Appointed aide to Maj. Gen. A. Quitman

Due to ill health, went to Europe on a 12 month furlough

On returning to West Point, published a manuel on rifles and rifled firing

June 8, 1861: Resigned his commission after learning Tennessee had seceded from the Union

June 1861: Commissioned a Captain of Artillery on March 16
